Sailing dhows are available for short excursions or longer sailing safaris. Motorized open boats and speedboats operate between the airport, Mokowe (the road head on the mainland) Shela, Manda and Lamu town, as ferries, leaving when they are full, and are also available for private hire. All provide life vests, which passengers are required to wear. Overnight sailing safaris require a few days notice.

Ask your hotel / guesthouse manager for more information. It is wise to agree a price before embarking on any boat ride.

Sailing; The best way to feel the spirit of Lamu is to sail. Ask your hotel / guesthouse manager for recommendations, which can include sundowners, half day or full day trips, transfers to the other islands or safaris to explore the archipelago lasting several days.
