Fishermen come to Lamu and Kiwayu from around the world to enjoy some of the best deep-sea fishing in Africa. Species often caught include sailfish, kingfish, barracuda, ‘kole kole’, jacks, snappers and tuna. The turn of the monsoon in October/November initiates the sailfish run and the ‘boiling pots’ of smaller fish attract yellow fin tuna and other pelagic species.
Creek fishing is also great fun for catching smaller fish. Ask your hotel / guest house manager to recommend a local boat with a captain who should have basic fishing equipment – or bring your own.
